Start High, Work Down

3. Check for cobwebs in ceiling corners — especially in garage and closet spaces.

Walls, Windows, and Doors

1. Wipe all light switches and outlet covers with a disinfecting wipe.
2. Clean window interiors, sills, and tracks. North Houston homes near wooded areas in Magnolia and Willis often have pollen and debris caked into window tracks.
3. Wipe down all interior doors, paying attention to the edges and the area around the knob.

Kitchen Deep Clean

• Run the dishwasher empty with a cup of vinegar on the top rack to flush lines and remove residue.
• Wipe inside every cabinet and drawer before placing shelf liners.
• Clean the oven interior, cooktop, and range hood filter.
• Sanitize the refrigerator interior, including the door seals where mold can hide.
• Run hot water through the garbage disposal with baking soda and lemon.

Bathrooms — Sanitize Everything

• Disinfect toilets, sinks, and bathtubs/showers thoroughly.
• Scrub tile grout — staining from previous tenants is common and not always visible at first glance.
• Run the exhaust fan and confirm it works. Clean the fan cover.
• Check under the sink for signs of moisture or mold.

Floors — The Final Pass

Do floors last, after all the dust from higher surfaces has settled down.

1. Vacuum all carpeted rooms, including closets and along baseboards.
2. Mop all hard floors with a cleaner appropriate for the surface type — tile, laminate, or hardwood.
3. Check the garage floor for oil stains or chemical residue.

Document Everything

Before your furniture arrives, walk through every room and photograph the condition of walls, floors, appliances, and fixtures. This protects you if there are pre-existing issues your landlord later attributes to your tenancy.
