PCS moves have strict cleaning requirements for base housing clearance. This guide covers the military-standard cleaning checklist, common inspection failures, and how to pass housing inspection on the first try.
PCS Cleaning Is Not Regular Move-Out Cleaning
Military families stationed at or near bases in the greater Houston area know that PCS move-out cleaning is a different beast from civilian apartment cleaning. Housing offices have standardized checklists that are far more detailed than anything a private landlord would require. Failing inspection means a callback — and with the compressed timeline of a PCS move, callbacks create serious stress.
Whether you are in base housing or renting off-base in Conroe, Spring, Humble, or The Woodlands, this guide covers what housing inspectors actually look for and how to pass on the first try.
Common Inspection Failures
1. Oven and range hood. The oven interior must be free of any baked-on residue. The range hood filter must be degreased or replaced. This is the most common failure point.
2. Refrigerator interior. Every shelf, drawer, and seal must be spotless. Pull out shelves and wash them individually.
3. Window tracks and blinds. Inspectors run a finger along window tracks. Any visible dust or debris is a fail.
4. Bathroom grout and caulking. Mold or discoloration in grout and caulking is flagged. Re-caulking may be required.
5. Baseboards and door frames. Dust, scuff marks, and pet damage on baseboards are caught during walkthroughs.

Timing Your PCS Clean
Most military families schedule their move-out clean for the day after the moving truck picks up their household goods. This gives you an empty house and a full day to clean — or to have professionals do it.
SparkTex Cleaners works with military families stationed in and around the North Houston area — Conroe, Spring, Humble, Kingwood, and The Woodlands. We understand the PCS timeline pressure and can typically complete a full housing-standard clean in a single day. Our checklist aligns with what base housing offices actually inspect, so you can ship out with confidence.
You have enough to worry about during a PCS move. Pass the housing inspection on the first try and focus on your family and your next assignment.
