Before You Start: Gather Your Green Cleaning Kit

Every task in this checklist uses only five products. Gather them before you begin:

• White distilled vinegar (gallon jug)
• Baking soda (large box or bag)
• Castile soap (any brand)
• Hydrogen peroxide 3% (spray bottle)
• Essential oils — optional for fragrance (lavender, tea tree, lemon)

You will also need: microfiber cloths (at least 10), a scrub brush, a spray bottle, a bucket, and a HEPA-filter vacuum. For a typical 2,000-square-foot home in Conroe or The Woodlands, budget 4 to 6 hours for a full deep clean.

Kitchen Deep Clean

1. Clear countertops completely. Spray with castile soap solution and wipe clean with microfiber cloth.
2. Pull out the refrigerator. Vacuum behind and underneath. Wipe the coils if accessible.
3. Clean inside the refrigerator with baking soda and water solution. Remove shelves and wash in the sink.
4. Clean the oven interior with baking soda paste (overnight method for best results).
5. Degrease the stovetop with baking soda and vinegar. Clean grates and burner caps in hot soapy water.
6. Clean the microwave with a baking soda steam treatment.
7. Wipe all cabinet fronts with castile soap solution, paying attention to handles and edges.
8. Clean the sink with baking soda scrub. Run vinegar and baking soda down the drain.
9. Wipe the dishwasher gasket with vinegar. Run an empty hot cycle with vinegar.
10. Mop the floor with castile soap and warm water. Scrub grout lines if tile.

Bathroom Deep Clean

1. Spray the entire shower and tub with hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit 10 minutes while you clean other areas.
2. Clean the toilet inside and out with baking soda and a scrub brush. Spray the exterior with hydrogen peroxide.
3. Scrub the sink and faucet with baking soda. Polish the faucet with a dry cloth.
4. Clean the mirror with vinegar-water spray and a lint-free cloth.
5. Scrub shower grout with a baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste.
6. Wipe the shower door (if glass) with vinegar solution and squeegee dry.
7. Clean the exhaust fan cover — remove, wash in soapy water, dry, and replace.
8. Wash bathroom rugs and towels in hot water with plant-based detergent.
9. Mop the floor. Address baseboards with a damp microfiber cloth.

Living Room and Bedrooms

1. Dust ceiling fans using the pillowcase method (traps dust, nothing falls).
2. Dust all surfaces top to bottom with damp microfiber cloths — shelves, furniture, baseboards.
3. Vacuum upholstered furniture with the upholstery attachment. Sprinkle baking soda, wait 20 minutes, vacuum again.
4. Vacuum all floors, including under furniture and along baseboards.
5. Spot-clean carpet stains with vinegar-dish soap solution.
6. Clean windows inside with vinegar-water spray.
7. Wipe light switches, door handles, and outlets with hydrogen peroxide.
8. Wash all bedding in hot water. Vacuum mattresses with upholstery attachment.
9. Sprinkle baking soda on mattresses, wait 30 minutes, and vacuum.

Laundry Room

1. Clean the washing machine with a vinegar cycle followed by a baking soda cycle.
2. Clean the lint trap and lint trap housing in the dryer.
3. Wipe dryer drum interior with vinegar solution.
4. Vacuum behind and around both machines.
5. Wipe shelves and countertops. Clean the utility sink with baking soda.

Entryway, Hallways, and Extras

1. Clean the front door — inside and out — with castile soap solution.
2. Wipe shoe storage and coat hooks.
3. Vacuum or mop hallway floors.
4. Clean all air vents and return grilles with a damp cloth.
5. Replace HVAC filter if due (every 60-90 days).
